VILLAGE GREENS
This simple feedback loop is making waste wonderful! As part of our ‘Village Greens’ project in Habu, we accept waste from Xigera Safari Lodge - part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection, turn it into compost, and use it to create fertile rich soil for the garden. Multiple crops are grown by the women and youth cooperative members in the ever expanding garden (now 2 full hectares under shade cloth and being irrigated) to feed the families in Habu and grow vegetables that are being purchased by Xigera Safari Lodge. This is a true example of circular economy ! This initiative endeavours to recreate and grow traditional employment opportunities for women with the end goal of increased #foodsecurity and #incomesecurity.
According to the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, “changing our food system is one of the most impactful things we can do to address climate change, create healthy cities, and rebuild biodiversity”. We are so proud to be part of the change to the linear way we think about the food system and the opportunities that exist when we design our way out of food “waste” completely.
